Is it harder for women to stay healthy and fit during and after menopause?
For many women, menopause is a difficult transitional period because not only are there major physical changes taking place, there’s also the psychological aspect of getting older and the changes that come with that.
Usually menopause happens around the ages of 50-60, however some women will experience it earlier than that while others may experience it later.
What are the symptoms of menopause?
- Irregular periods
- Vaginal dryness
- Hot flashes
- Chills
- Night sweats
- Difficulty sleeping
- Fluctuating moods
- Weight gain
- Slower metabolic rate
- Thinning hair
- Loss of breast fullness
When menstrual periods stop, this can put a woman at a higher risk for accelerated bone loss, so they will want to be extra sure to take in sufficient calcium sources and participating in weight bearing exercise like strength training as much as possible.
Remember that a woman’s body will continue to change all throughout her life, and if you focus on weight bearing exercise regularly and eating well, you can age gracefully and beautifully, regardless of the effects of menopause.
