When you hear the word bacon, what comes to mind? The Atkins diet perhaps? Or maybe you think about a high fat food that should be avoided… or you might even think about ‘heart disease’.
Whatever the case, if you’ve been down on bacon, it’s time for a second chance.
Sure, you definitely don’t want to be eating pounds of bacon every day, but you don’t need to completely shun this food either.
Bacon, in moderation, can be healthy. Here’s why.
- Sugar free. The news is in and sugar is far more harmful to your health than saturated fat is. Bacon is sugar free, which is a very good thing
- Hunger busting. The fat and protein combination found in bacon is great for combating hunger and helping you side-step unnecessary snacking between meals
- It contains a small dose of omega-3 fatty acids, which is a fat that everyone should be trying to get more of in each day
- Bacon may boost your mood! This is thanks to the umami found in bacon, which has been shown to be a positive mood enhancer
- Bacon contains a good dose of vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, as well as B12
- You’ll also get a good dose of selenium when consuming bacon
As you can see, bacon isn’t necessarily the ‘bad guy’ it’s made out to be. Eat a slice or two a few days a week and you’ll be glad you did!
